Clinical Hypnotherapy

What is Clinical Hypnosis?

Clinical Hypnotherapy has long been used as a powerful force for change. It is known to have positive effects over fears and phobias, anxiety, breaking bad habits and even physical symptoms such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). You may have heard it called 'Suggestion Therapy', this is because when we are in a relaxed state of hypnosis our minds are most open to the carefully worded suggestions a therapist will use to have maximum impact over the symptoms consulted for.

The process is surprisingly simple and even enjoyable. Hypnosis is a very natural and pleasant state of mind and is one we all enter into at some point everyday. For example, when we are really engrossed in a good book or TV programme, or we all know that feeling where we drive a familiar route but cannot remember parts of the journey! We are in a kind of auto pilot and our subconscious is in charge.

Your subconscious is very powerful and if you can imagine change at this level it will start to affect your behaviour. So while in hypnosis I will use positive suggestions to help you overcome your symptoms along with visualisation techniques. This can help you use your own imagination to visualise the outcome you want to achieve. This is well known as having a powerful influence over your thoughts and feelings. If you can imagine it you can achieve it!

If you can picture yourself coping differently in a fearful situation or breaking a bad habit it can have a very powerful and positive effect on how you feel and the way you behave.

For example, If you consulted me for fear of flying I would be giving you suggestions to help you feel calm, relaxed and in control of your feelings and reactions. Plus helping you imagine sitting on the plane feeling cool, calm and collected. By doing this you would be able to tap into this experience when the real situation happened.
